Name: Sakuya Shiomi

Gender: Male
Home: Yun'Ashia
History:

The most prevalent element of Sakuya's story that distinguishes his personality from Minato's is that while he was similarly orphaned, he had a beloved twin sister, and they were adopted into a happy household in Yun'ashia: Elezen twins with their two mothers. Though still reserved, he had a childhood with a small friendship circle at the tug and pull of his slightly elder sister-- the two were opposites in many ways but balanced each other well. No favoritism between them, their parents were good ones. Still, Sakuya envied his sister in many aspects, as most siblings do. His sister was independent, and able to bounce back upon failures, while he could only dwell on his mistakes and feel terrible. She was adventurous, where he would only dwell on the consequences. Sure, he would excel in school, but without her magneticism he would eat lunches alone. Admittedly having been coddled back as a crybaby, he became overly insecure when expressing his own thoughts and desires, preferring to let others take the lead so as to disrupt as little as possible, and he learned to be good at pretending things were okay even when they weren't. But when the more malicious neighbors snidely attacked his position as "the only boy of the family", not being bothered so much by his meek personality as how proud he was of wearing a personal project they thought was stolen from his sister: a comfortable and light-colored dress. The expression he wore on his face easy to read for them, his mothers eventually managed to pry the truth out and confronted the ones who hurt their boy, but Sakuya himself knew he shouldn't depend on them forever, and he lay down that night wide awake, in the pit of his stomach overwhelming feelings between shame and gratitude, but more of the former. His sister quietly moved closer to him when she heard his breath hitching, and he declared wanting to change.

And one of the reasons he could not remain timid was his dream of The Great Theater. Sakuya absolutely adored watching them when they could afford it, and he was taken to another place, similar to how he felt whenever he read stories; all other arts brought to the island of Crash Key were precious, but this was his dream-- to one day perform on that stage, unashamed and able to bring the wonder he himself saw and kept in his heart. Too shy to perform in front of anyone else, even his own sister who only heard hums, Sakuya had his own place underneath a tree where he liked to sing, and for those moments, everything felt okay. And one day there was a little girl he didn't recognize around his age, Arie, who heard him-- and he was mortified. She apologetically gave him a flower for scaring him, and complimented how pretty his voice was. She was the first friend he made without the help of his sister. They sat together, shared stories about each other, and sang up until the sky started to get dark. He trusted her enough to say he wanted to perform one day, no matter how long it takes, and she nodded that she believed in him. It was a friendship worth getting into trouble for later with his parents, and he imagined it was the same for Arie. Even after she had to leave Yun'Ashia, they maintained contact, first as pen pals, and later on in Mognet. (Sakuya still preserves that it feels more special when it's not instant, but appreciates technology being magical in its own way.)

In the passage of time, Sakuya worked toward accepting himself, as it turns out, looking confident is good for deterring people who want to mess with you; he grew his hair long and started to regularly wear one of his sister's clips for good luck, and to keep him company even while they were apart in classes now that they were older. He dressed how he wanted until he looked confident enough that no one could faze him with their rooted concept of manliness, "look good, feel good" as they say. This new him on the outside brought a new set of problems, confessions, teenage attraction and dating. What Sakuya proceeded to do was not good; he moved from fling to fling, wanting to make a new identity for himself and find out what people enjoyed about being with him, so that he could better love himself as well more than look nice-- and if by some miracle, one ends up as perfect as his favorite love story in a play. Turns out there is a 90% rate they probably just really liked his face. Years later when Sakuya finally considered that this might just be him unconsciously using people for his own gain, he stopped looking for (or accepted being sought out by) the next part of his long string of short-lived relationships. Not all is lost however, and after seeing how romantically incompetent he was, a few actually managed to become his good friends. Bonding over the topic of a common ex with him still present was very awkward for Sakuya to say the least, but he could actually take this embarrassment in stride now, if not internally bemoaning how he can't seem to make friends without making a fool of himself.

There was one friend he wanted to make when he spent higher education in Arito, but never got around to doing it. A classmate on the more serious end, Lean, surpassed him in grades and appeared to have such keen focus, and Sakuya briefly considered that as the reason why he took an interest to him, but no, he had the nagging feeling that wasn't all there was to it. Maybe it was a sensation they'd somehow get along, or he recognized him from somewhere. But Sakuya either made excuses for himself not to talk to him from his anxiety, or he had legitimate reasons such as being dragged around some more on dates he blindly agreed to before he stopped doing them. Months passed, and he made no progress, either way, they never got too far beyond being acquainted. And that would not change for this time in their youth either, when Sakuya got an important message that made he and his sister drop their schooling in Arito. Life wouldn't be the same afterward, and the chapter on finishing his schooling was aborted.

Through a string of incredibly bad fortune (summarized most concisely by their more sarcastic mom as "being related") they were saddled with a debt from a relative who got into trouble with some very shady dealings, and got himself killed. To make the money, they had to sell their house, all they had, and even arrange a funeral for who started this mess, and there was still more to go now that they now had nothing but a time limit. Friends would let them stay in their homes, and though it was only a house, it pained Sakuya greatly to see another family live there. It gave him the drive to finally show what he had kept hiding for so long, and he began performing to earn money; through dance from his extracurricular practice for now, singing at the same time was still skill and courage he needed to earn. When he found a higher-paying job opening at Curti Center, Sakuya once again bid Yun'Ashia farewell, promising to stay in touch and send back money so they could have the lives they had before back. And though his parents told him to think of himself as well, he only kept as much as he needed. The debt has since been paid, but they've a long way to go from being well-off again.

Personality:

Sakuya is an extremely pretty boy who stands up straight and has a soft, glimmering aura. This quickly crashes internally when he's approached by strangers. A young man who only really looks like he knows what he's doing, Sakuya is plagued with constant self-doubt, and tries to cope by being respectful, agreeable, and pleasing as many people as possible. He manages to come across as polite if not really used to too much company, and the truth is he's probably better adjusted than he gives himself credit for. It's tough to live like the only path to satisfaction is making sure everyone likes you, and even with knowing that's objectively impossible he tries his hardest. Impressing others, Sakuya felt, was the key to self-confidence, rather than relying on his own shoddy judgment. Having always cherished fashion as part of his identity more than ever after he became defiant of the people who bullied him, Sakuya uses it as a means to feel better being in his own skin, which was helped by his popularity when he became a teenager. The nature of Sakuya's presentation issues extends beyond his dreams of performing and having decent, non-awkward conversations. Sakuya is short for an Elezen, because of this he gets more driven behaving as an adult around them, and will use heels even outside his Dancer job as to not have the usual mistake on his age; he quickly denies whenever someone confronts him if he has something he wants to prove.

A number of Sakuya's hobbies are amplified versions of how Minato passed the time in the base P3 game, singing from karaoke, theatre from watching films, fashion from his Social Link with Bebe, and looking nice from photo booths; the dancing part is a P3D joke that just happened to get too real along with taking other cues from the stageplay. That said, he's still pretty embarrassed about admitting half of them, so he still has some ways to go with making casual conversation with others. At least he has solid interests when he gets there! He's fairly decent at showing interest at what others are into, and has a tendency to follow through with it so long as there aren't too many in-queue at once (re: disastrous dating saga). There are many elements in which Sakuya messed up in his social life, but to try too hard to be someone he isn't is something that he has been thankfully avoided.

In times of stress, Sakuya faces possible shutdown from the immediate "how on Vaikuntha are we going to get through this", but he can be snapped out of it with relative ease with the reassurance he has others he can count on (there is less confidence in, say, himself alone). He is less of an inherent pessimist than OU's pre-development, but still frequently worries, costing him much-needed breaks, and scandalously, Sakuya isn't even a sleepyhead at all! Too much to think about, too little time. The concept of battling, with its possible consequence of death makes him not understand people who willingly take on Jobs on the frontline, as unlike his original self's early recklessness and lack of self-regard in safety, he has a family that loves him and to live for, so his higher priority would be to stay alive, over mindlessly accepting any dangerous missions that may come his way; less like cowardice, and more of an active caution. But as the stakes escalate and Sakuya's friends brush with danger, it is only then that Sakuya would reconsider his stance on putting himself in harm's way for the sake of others. It isn't as if he can turn away from what's in front of him, but he hates feeling helpless and believes that there isn't any way he can be as helpful as he wishes he could be, until he stops thinking and just acts.

The majority of Sakuya's strengths lie in his mind, even with having to withdraw from schooling he continued with available resources to grow in his pool of knowledge. Be it a mix of interest or paranoia, he's well-read on a number of monsters so in case of a worst case scenario he can help others deal with it. And never let it be said that those who don't indulge in a variety of stories can't get creative with solutions to problems. He's very thorough when it comes to research, and when it aligns with his field of interest Sakuya doesn't spare any effort. Even in things he isn't good at Sakuya does his best, despite being afraid of how others are going to judge him if he turns out to be bad at it, so he'd prefer comfortable spaces in which he's certain of his skill. If he'd believed in himself some more, he'd probably be capable of a lot more than he realizes.

It is true that Sakuya has a lot of differences from Minato caused by having a more average upbringing allowing him more expression and awareness, but several base characteristics remain. Despite a more active social background, he's still got a tendency to make things awkward with the wrong words, even while actually engaging in romance, he is still the submissive one allowing things to happen instead of initiating, and Sakuya would rather not talk about his problems because it just feels like it's wasting their time and a sign of his own weakness. The one thing that he most urgently needs from his OU self is probably the ability to chill, as he has a much harder time doing anything if he's already calculating whoever else would be better suited for something than himself; and while Minato never held himself in any high esteem, it's not like he was constantly regarding himself in an inferior light. That's the problem with having dreams, you get disappointed more often too.

Their Past Self
Name: Minato Arisato
Canon: Persona 3
[community profile] melodiesoflife Game History:

Unwilling and uncaring, Minato was first brought to Crystallis where most of the events that changed his colorless world had not yet happened. He saw little reason to cooperate with a strange queen who somehow abducted people at random to save a world he was an alien to. For the most part, his Moogle Kharon had to goad him into doing things early on, and he had no intention of really connecting with anyone beyond acquaintanceship. If anything, all it did was take him away from school, where he imagined he would be marginally more productive. Kharon had believed this too, until the information leak of the Heroes of Light happened, and he read in detail why his charge behaved the way he did, and how much potential he truly had. Minato had noticed this change in treatment far before Kharon ever admits why, but did not vocalize it.

By October, due to his ties with death, he was not bothered by and wanted to help the non-violent spirits to find their peace, the first blatant display that he was neither as apathetic nor idle as he initially claimed. Somehow, he was able to find people concerned enough to keep up with him, and if he weren't so stubborn, Minato would have been able to call them his first friends sooner. He'd been reckless, and didn't look after one of his teammates close enough; though it could have gone a lot worse than a haircut, Minato learned that he wanted to be able to protect others. The Night of the Thirteen Moogles was dangerous for most in Aqures Ixen, but Minato managed to not die. From then on, fully heeding the dangers of Crystallis, one of his main jobs was as a White Mage and he worked at the hospital.

Come Christmas, people had given him the first non-token gifts he's received in years, most strangely, a gift from the elusive queen that brought him into a hell of a mess, but also let him meet his friends. He recognized the light silver sheen of a gun-like object as being the one he used on himself before he woke up in Crystallis, the red armband he received from Cid (--not for Christmas) however was foreign. "Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad" would be something to ponder a while. As New Year came, Minato appreciated it aboard an airship, and after months of stubbornness, regarded his gratefulness for his companions and how he really does want to help save this world under the fireworks.

January was a period that traumatized many Heroes of Light, as they had a shared dream granted by one of the avatars known as The Sage, of a possible future where they had turned against one another; the end of the world was coming and it was a battle between a baseless hope that all can be saved and the resolved to sacrifice what was needed. Minato's future self was among those who still had hope, and he had lost both his best friends; Ace to a grave battle against the rift, and Tear stood at the opposite philosophy. Even in just a dream, he'd never felt so lonely, but he did not give up, and attempted a diplomatic discussion that resulted in his own death, as well. When he awoke, he went and saw the man himself, and promised to himself that future would not happen.

As Ace stay asleep in crystal, he overcame his fear of Chocobos-- at least enough to keep the poor guy company while his master was gone. He also sought the knowledge of the Eidolons, and wanted to learn their language. This however, was an effort stopped by his own eventual Crystal Stasis. When he next woke, he had all knowledge of his life up to his last day on Earth, and Crystallis was nearing its end. Taking part in the final battles against Kalki, he volunteered himself as one of the four sacrifices to end the cycle, justifying that if it would take him, he was already dead and didn't have "home" to return to... and Crystallis already gave him more time than he should have had. It broke his heart to have Tear beside him, but they held each other's hands, he glanced at Shakyamuni's, Sephiroth and Sayaka, and soon enough, it was all over.

Personal History: P3 on the MegaTen wiki
Personality: Teal Deer on his past app if you rly wanna subject yourself to that

Minato is a quiet, thoughtful boy who ultimately grew compassionate and sincere after years alone and not really caring about much of anything. He still gives the impression of someone aloof due to his lack of visible expression, and aside from talking to others one-on-one, he's really not the type to speak up unless someone wants to hear him. When he does though, it's usually for the sake of being what the other person wants exactly. Once attached to someone, Minato becomes more a yes-man than giving the cold hard facts. Fortunately, this does not become the case for friends he's certain will not think any less of him for being blunt. Walking life at the beat of his own drum, with aforementioned friends Minato is even more of an oddball who does bizarre things without much minding the reaction of those around him, aware they will accept him nonetheless. The unfiltered Minato is the terror of Iwatodai.

As Minato found his place in S.E.E.S., at first he found his value as purely utility. Because he happened to be gifted with the Wild Card, he was dependable, he became a field leader. By convenience or fate, his attendant in the Velvet Room told him that he must make bonds to create true strength. There are too many people and just one Minato, so when it comes to people he ultimately decides to form relations with, they tend to be the people who look like they don't really have anyone else. Minato hadn't really contemplated it before, that though he had gotten used to loneliness, it wasn't something he wished upon anyone else. It turns out he was a pretty good listener, not at giving solutions to problems as much as being a shoulder to lean on who can be trusted with secrets they can't share to anyone else. Minato was living not only for himself, but for other people who actually loved him; he wouldn't have believed that concept just a year earlier.

Most things that he had learned in Crystallis were similar to his natural course within P3 canon, but he ultimately ended up being a more honest version of himself, as he didn't feel the need to lie among his fellow Heroes of Light; no lip service and expectations that he'd be there at their call to listen to their latest troubles. There was no pretense and no responsibility tied to him being a leader, he had and gave respect as a peer with no hierarchy attached. But still woefully oblivious, Minato had began to develop romantic feelings that he only regarded as being even more protective of a crush than the average friend, and wanting to ensure their futures and actively learn more about them instead of just help where he could. Minato never did learn to really talk about his normal problems, much less romantic ones, he concerned himself with everything else he automatically deemed more important, and every personal problem he's experienced is one he can handle on his own, even if he does have people willing to listen.
